Turkey Armenian talks were held to resolve their contentious issues. The foreign ministers of both countries declare talks as constructive and help strengthen their bilateral relations. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and Ararat Mirzoyan have called talks a stepping stone towards better relations in the future.
Both countries have shown their inclination to develop good relations with each other. Turkey and Armenia have held numerous meetings to strengthen their relations. They have signed the 2009 peace accord, which was not ratified by them. According to accord the issues should be resolved through negotiation. Turkey and Armenia use diplomatic doors to discuss their point of contention and give consideration to human rights to overcome their bitter relations in past.
Normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia can be called a good step towards lasting peace in the region. According to Armenia 1.5 million people, Armenia says were killed in 1915 by the Ottoman Empire, the Armenian government claimed that the 1915 killing can be equated with the genocide. Both countries have disputed territory and particularly, in the 2020 war over the Nagorno-Karabakh territory. Turkey accused ethnic Armenian forces of occupying land that belong to Azerbaijan.
The blame game can prove counterproductive for Turkey and Armenia. Both states are independent countries and are supposed to act in accordance with international norms that are enforced through international law. The violation of treaty or peace agreements can turn disagreement into conflicts that is a source of concern for all states of the world. The roadmap for conflictual issues requires serious efforts from both countries can bring stability to their relations.
