Bashar Assad has also met Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the state news agencies confirmed the meeting between them. This is his first visit since 2011 when he was accused of increasing tensions at the domestic level. The civil war in Syria further flare-up among rebels and Assad-backed forces.
The purpose of the visit is to discuss the overall situation and their bilateral relations. The bilateral cooperation, mainly in the context of the economic investment strengthened their relations and increased their trade and at commercial levels to mend their relations that were discontinued after the civil war in Syria.
The Arab countries have revived their ties with Assad, along with other neighboring countries Jordan and Lebanon. The normalization of relations with Syria will play a role in stabilizing the regional political situation. The stability within the region will prevent conflict and uncertainty. The Arab countries blamed Syria for deadlock after they launch an operation against the opposition in 2011.
Saudi Arabia and UAE have drastically changed their policy at the regional level to prevent the involvement of Iran at the regional level. They suspected the Iranian role and blamed them for flaring up conflict for their interest. The normalization of relations is to signal Iran and secure stability within the Gulf region.
The conflict-prone region will drain the resources of gulf states. The uncertainty can turn their states into an economic crisis. They have shifted their economy from oil towards a broader economy that is not dependent upon oil and gas. They are investing in other sectors to stabilize their economy through effective strategies that require them to cooperate with the other regional actors.
