Germany has signed a gas pipeline deal with Qatar. The deal was made after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Germany in order to meet their energy supply has made a deal to avoid their reliance on the Russian supply of gas. Germany is one of the major importers of gas from Russia. Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met Habeck on Sunday to further strengthen their relations with each other. They have exchanged numerous bilateral agreements to broaden their cooperation, particularly in the energy sector. The continuous supply of energy is necessary for the economic stability of any country. Both the leaders have shown willingness to increase their bilateral ties.
They have made deals for LNG supply to boost their bilateral trade with each other. Habeck met Qatari Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad Sherida al-Kaabi in Doha, to increase cooperation with Qatar. War in Ukraine became the impetus for shifting energy reliance from Russia to the United Arab Emirates. The war threaten the energy security of Germany as result they shifted their focus for energy to the gulf region.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz also announce the construction of two new terminals for liquefied natural gas. The shift of gas supply will secure their energy needs. The war in Ukraine has rattled the world and shifted the dependence on gas from Russia to the Gulf. Gulf countries maintain close ties with Russia. Their cooperation is not affected by war the gulf countries have avoided opposing Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Germany has stopped the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project to bring Russian natural gas to Germany through the Baltic Sea. They have discontinued their ongoing fuel supply project with Russia due to their invasion in Ukraine and push Ukraine to withdraw their forces from Ukraine. The talks between Ukraine and Russia haven’t been able to broker peace between them.
Germany has announced to phase out its nuclear power production by the end of this year. They have made this decision to decrease their reliance on nuclear energy. Experts have apprehensions on how it would impact the economy of Germany, particularly after Russia's invasion that has posed a threat to the stability and security of the world mainly Europe. The question is will Germany withdraw from passing out their nuclear power production?
