Burkina Faso Conflict

Burkina Faso became a concern for the World after the replacement of the 27-year rule of Blaise and he was forced to step down as a result of protests of masses against their ruler. It was due to the movement of people through Arab Spring to make their countries more democratic and equitable for their citizens. The people stood up against the injustices and uneven distribution of resources in their country.

The Violent protests erupted as marginalized Tuaregs in 2012 started to launch attacks and instability prevailed over the entire Sahel region. The terror attacks dismantle the normal life of people. The terror group al-Qaeda-affiliated Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM), was blamed for supporting the Tuaregs and funding them to created unrest in the country. These attacks threaten the security of other states.

In the context, of the humanitarian crisis in Burkina Faso,20 million people, need urgent humanitarian assistance. 1.7 million people have also been displaced due to uncertain security situations and frequent attacks by rebel groups. Political violence was the root cause of unrest. The rebel groups want autonomy and refuse to work with their hovering authorities. Mali became the flashpoint of conflict in the Sahel region.

The Burkinabe military government was not challenged by people who oppose their rule and protested for an equitable system of governance for them. The Arab Spring became the impetus for regime change in the African region led by masses. The civil society actively campaigned against their government to bring change in their political system and revamp their political institutions to safeguard the rights of their citizens. In Mali, Operation Barkhane was conducted to curtail the terror activities of the rebel groups. The European Union’s Task Force was working in the Niger and Burkina Faso for the counterterrorism operations. They have withdrawn their forces to strengthen the local forces to ensure their security from terror groups and hold talks with rebel groups to end the conflict in the Sahel region.

According to experts, counter-terrorism efforts can be useful through the participation of rebel groups and addressing their grievances towards their government. The stability in Mali is essential for the security of the whole region. The unrest in one part of the Sahel region can cause instability for other countries.

Melting Glaciers in Antarctic Region

Satellite images show the 1,200sq km (463sq miles) Conger Ice Shelf collapsed completely in March. According to studies by scientists, the large chunks of ice attached to the land acts as a buffer to prevent ice from melting and flowing into the ocean increasing the risk of submergence due to a rise in sea level on the land areas. The areas on coastlines are in danger of receding land areas due to the rise in sea levels. The temperature reaching 40C (70F) above normal in parts of East Antarctica, is unusual for the region during this time of the year. Scientists, consider the melting of ice in Antarctica is likely to increase the risk of flooding. The rapid pace of melting of ice has adverse effects on the land adjoining the ocean. Melting of ice is creating an effect Neff described as “a fire hose of moisture phenomenon. The rate of climate change is three times warmer in the Antarctic than in the Arctic Ocean. In the context of factors, first and foremost is the increase in greenhous...
