Ukraine Crisis

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent their troops to Ukraine by declaring it’s a special operation. The invasion of another country is a violation of the sovereignty of the state. The Russian claims are enough to challenge the sovereignty of another state? International law prohibits any state to invade into territorial sovereignty of another country. In the context, of global politics, the shift in the policy of restrain to waging war against Ukraine will have a long-lasting impact in changing the global political arena into active war is alarming for the whole world.

According to recent reports Russian are heading towards the Eastern flack of Ukraine and facing resistance from their forces. Ukrainian forces particularly, NATO have a stronghold on the west flack of the country. The question that is pertinent; How the war in Ukraine will impacts world peace and stability? . Russia defended its rationale for war is to maintain the balance of power in the region. The desire of Ukraine to join the NATO-led block would disrupt the regional dimensions of Eastern Europe. Would Russia be able to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO?

In the meanwhile, NATO  held an emergency session to condemn the attack on the sovereignty and violation of their sovereignty.  Ukraine equates the Russian invasion as doctorial action calling it Nazi-style policy towards their country. However, Russia has voted the resolution drafted by the US in the United Nations Security Council that opposes the Russian invasion of Ukraine sovereignty. China was absent from voting on the recent resolution on Russia's decision to wage war on Ukraine despite their claims of denying using force. The voting in UNSC proved to be futile to end the war in Ukraine. Russia has made advances in Eastern Ukraine.

The west of Ukraine has a strong foot of NATO-backed forces that have been protecting the other bloc of Western Ukraine. In recent rounds of fighting Russia is moving towards the capital of Kyiv and facing resistance in form of missiles and rockets. The Ukrainian forces are defending against Russian and refuse to surrender in wake of the ongoing war in their country.   President Zelensky through video message refuses to surrender their freedom to Russia. He said they are ready to fight and will continue to fight with Russian forces. Furthermore, Ukraine has also offered to hold talks on ending the war in the country.

US administration has expressed their concern and equated their actions similar to a policy of Crimea annexation. They deny their right to freedom and interference in the sovereignty of Ukraine. US President Biden warned of Russian intention of waging war before the Russian forces beefed up on the Ukrainian border. Biden administration has pointed to Russian aspirations to invade Ukraine to exert their power in Eastern Europe to curb democracies in Eastern Europe.  That was started after the color revolutions particularly the Orange Revolution of Ukraine. The US has threatened Russia with more sanctions to avert war in Ukraine.

Turkey expressed their concern by opposing the invasion into Ukraine. They call Russian acts aggression and against international treaties to restore peace in the world. Turkey calls a heavy blow to regional stability after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke to his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a “heavy blow to regional peace and stability”. [1] He rejected the attack of Russia on Ukraine. Turkey has suggested using diplomatic means to resolve the issue in Ukraine and offers them mediators to bring both parties to the negotiation table.

The question is can Russian invasion can be equated with Crimea annexation? According to experts, Ukraine can be compared to Crimea as they joined Russia. In the context of Crimea, the people have cultural and historical ties with Russia. Ideologically, the convergence of their ideational factors led to Crimea becoming part of Russia.  Whereas Ukraine has strong sentiment against Russian policies and their inclination towards NATO-led forces and democratization of their country. They have expressed their desire to join NATO to protect their sovereignty from Russian expansionist policies in Eastern Europe.  Is the war in Ukraine against the invasion of Russia will continue?

The international global community has condemned the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Moreover,   the anti-war rallies throughout Europe and US have opposed the war in Ukraine. They openly protested to show their soldiery with the people of Ukraine and end the war to restore peace of Eastern Europe. The analysts also expressed their concerns and declare an emergency situation for the world and specifically for the people of Ukraine and put pressure on Russia and US with NATO to play their role in averting war. The cost of war for people is higher than the Russian expansion into the Eastern European region.  The situation is still not clear whether it will be similar to Crimea or Ukraine will become two independent states. One bloc led by Ukraine and another bloc of rebels will continue to support Russia.

Melting Glaciers in Antarctic Region

Satellite images show the 1,200sq km (463sq miles) Conger Ice Shelf collapsed completely in March. According to studies by scientists, the large chunks of ice attached to the land acts as a buffer to prevent ice from melting and flowing into the ocean increasing the risk of submergence due to a rise in sea level on the land areas. The areas on coastlines are in danger of receding land areas due to the rise in sea levels. The temperature reaching 40C (70F) above normal in parts of East Antarctica, is unusual for the region during this time of the year. Scientists, consider the melting of ice in Antarctica is likely to increase the risk of flooding. The rapid pace of melting of ice has adverse effects on the land adjoining the ocean. Melting of ice is creating an effect Neff described as “a fire hose of moisture phenomenon. The rate of climate change is three times warmer in the Antarctic than in the Arctic Ocean. In the context of factors, first and foremost is the increase in greenhous...
