Omicron Virus

The variant known as Omicron has raised concern for health experts. The measures to curtail covid-19 met with other challenges in form of the new variant. The rapid spread of Omicron is a result of new mutations in the virus.

The question is how new variants will impact the existing efforts to prevent the spread of Covid-19 further? As per World Health Organization (WHO), The Omicron sequencing data suggested there are over 30 mutations in the recent virus. As a result, the spread of new variants has increased the risk of the transmissibility of omicron. At present, the booster vaccine is used for preventing Omicron in addition to the Covid-19 vaccine.

World Health Organization statistics suggest Omicron has spread in 77 countries. It is not taken mild threat rather major emerging threat to contain the spread of corona which is the biggest source of concern for Health Experts around the globe. The case of people infected by Omicron has started to emerge in South Africa. In most cases, children are tested positive with Omicron as per recent statistical data. The common symptoms of Omicron are nasal congestion, headache, sore throat, and fever. Omicron has become a dominant variant in South Africa. It is declared a major threat for people.

The blood samples of people are taken by researchers who have been contacted by recent Omicron variant to suggest potential vaccine for these patients. The virologists and epidemiology expressed their apprehensions over neutralizations of Omicron and hybrid immunity of those who are vaccinated or carry infections from previous variants of coronavirus. According to the chief scientist of WHO most of the countries don’t have adequate vaccine supplies to cater to their population and booster doses of vaccine are not the only solution.  A large number of people still haven’t received the primary dose of the Corona vaccine.

In a WHO briefing, Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Ph.D. said Omicron has been reported in 57 countries. The number is still kept on increasing every day. The scientists need time to test and validate the existing data on Omicron to come up with solutions in form of vaccines and causes of new variants mutations in Coronavirus. The experts have warned the people if proper steps are not taken to abide by the guidelines of the World Health Organization against Omicron it could become worse. While giving a regular briefing on the Covid-19 spread and its impact on the world still living under the threat of catching Omicron.

Melting Glaciers in Antarctic Region

Satellite images show the 1,200sq km (463sq miles) Conger Ice Shelf collapsed completely in March. According to studies by scientists, the large chunks of ice attached to the land acts as a buffer to prevent ice from melting and flowing into the ocean increasing the risk of submergence due to a rise in sea level on the land areas. The areas on coastlines are in danger of receding land areas due to the rise in sea levels. The temperature reaching 40C (70F) above normal in parts of East Antarctica, is unusual for the region during this time of the year. Scientists, consider the melting of ice in Antarctica is likely to increase the risk of flooding. The rapid pace of melting of ice has adverse effects on the land adjoining the ocean. Melting of ice is creating an effect Neff described as “a fire hose of moisture phenomenon. The rate of climate change is three times warmer in the Antarctic than in the Arctic Ocean. In the context of factors, first and foremost is the increase in greenhous...

Heat Wave in Europe : 2022

A wildfire  erupted in different parts of Europe amid the heat wave creating havoc for people.   Scientists have linked wildfire to climate change which has become a major concern that is leading to extreme weather conditions. The scourging heat has contributed to increasing in wildfires that led to the excavation of people. The temperature is expected to reach 40 Celsius in different parts of Europe as per the health advisory issued by countries in Europe.     Portugal and Spain are the most affected countries by the recent wave of heat waves. The firefighters are fighting to extinguish the wildfire and rescue the operation of people stranded in the wildfire. Scientists have predicted more wildfires in the coming years. In Portugal, five regions were affected areas due to heat waves where the temperature rose to 47 Celsius.  Wildfires have destroyed 30,000 hectares of land in Portugal and 100 people have lost their lives due to wildfires.
